Eileen Cassidy is the charismatic, high-vibe human we shot for our Black & Tan shoot from the Melbourne Minimal range. Over a cocktail (or five) we chatted to her about some of her favourite things.
Okay, Northside vs Southside. Is the rivalry real? Which is better and why?
Northside all the way. Everything about it: the food, coffee, people, vibe. It’s a lot less snob central, you know?
Controversial… That statement is divisive in The 5TH team! But I’m with you. So tell us about you, in a nutshell.
I’m a foodie; I love to cook! I’m a true sucker for a good thriller movie too – I’m a Netflix and chill kinda gal. A cup of tea on the couch or some nice wine is my definition of an excellent weekend.
Because I’m travelling so much for work these days, I love being with mum and dad whenever I’m home. Family, mates and good times are what I’m all about.
Us too… obviously. Has pursuing fashion always been on your agenda?
Nope! I did a degree in PR a few years back. I was unsure what I wanted to do exactly, but definitely something to do with the food industry. Modelling in the fashion world kind of happened by accident. I got scouted when I was younger; I didn’t take it all very seriously – fast forward a few years and it’s my full time job!
How would you describe your style?
Chameleon at heart. I dress according to how I’m feeling that day. I’ve got a lot of black and white, pretty minimal stuff. Then I’ve got crazy floral boho, all the way to my attempt at 90’s hipster.
Ha! How Melbourne of you. What’s your favourite hobby?
Getting creative in the kitchen. I miss my kitchen.
And what exciting things (travel, work or other) are in the works?
Well, I’m about to head to Mumbai, India. I got signed over there for two months working. So that’s pretty cool. I don’t know what to expect at all really, all I know is it’s totally different to anywhere I’ve travelled before. SO EXCITED! I am looking forward to some time off later this year… Not sure where I want to go yet, but it will involve some serious adventure and hiking.
What is the most fun project or campaign you’ve worked on?
I’d have to say the Elwood campaign this year with Tess Shanahan. Spending the day with one of your best friends and getting to work together is pretty great. That, and the shoot with you guys for The 5TH not long ago. A great team, makes all the difference! What a day! (Laughs.)
Good answer! Melbourne Summer or winter?
No question about it. Summer! I leave the country for almost 6 months of the year when it’s cold. I hate cold weather.
What’s something people wouldn’t know about you?
I am super duper spiritual. I was brought up around a lot of spiritual healing – it was a taboo thing growing up, but now I feel like people are a whole lot more accepting and understanding.
What do you love most about Melbourne?
Well it’s home. Friends, my family, summer, the feeling of familiarity. Coffee, our city. It’s a great place to live. (When its not too cold.)
What are some of Melbourne’s best spots for:
A first date: Hmmmm I’m a sucker for some good Japanese or Mexican. Melbourne has way to many yummy options. I Love Ichi Ni Izakaya.
Hanging out: Chilling in the Botanical Gardens with some yummy coffee and good company. That place is seriously heaven.
Drinks: I love Naked For Satan in Brunswick Street. A nice session in the afternoon on that rooftop! Makes me smile thinking about it.
